Effective November 28, 2001,
licentiates with a Radiography Supervisor and Operator Permit must earn
10 continuing education credits every 2 years to renew the Permit. For
2003 renewals, this requirement was prorated to 5 hours. The text of relevant
sections of the California
Code of Regulations relating to permits is reproduced below for your
ease of reference.

30400.5 — Approved Continuing Education Credit
"Approved continuing education credit" means one hour of instruction
received in subjects related to the application of X-ray to the human
body and accepted for purposes of credentialing, assigning professional
status or certification by the:
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists;
- Medical Board of California;
- Osteopathic Medical Board of California;
- California Board of Chiropractic Examiners;
- Board of Podiatric Medicine; or
- Board of Dental Examiners.

§
30400.85. — Radiography
"Radiography" means the recording of static images on any suitable
medium by passing X-rays through portions of the human body, and includes
one or more of the following:
- Positioning the patient.
- Selecting exposure factors.
- Exposing the patient and the recording medium
to X-rays.

30403. — Requirements for Continuing Education and Performance of
Mammographic Examinations
- Each individual certified or permitted pursuant
sections 30440, 30444, and/or 30451 shall, in the two years immediately
preceding the expiration date of the certificate or permit, earn 24
approved continuing education credits, except that each individual who
is certified pursuant to sections 30440(a) and 30455.1 shall meet the
requirements of subsection (c).
- Each individual certified or permitted pursuant
to 30466 and 30467 shall, in the two years immediately preceding the
expiration date of the certificate or permit, earn 10 approved continuing
education credits.
- Each individual certified pursuant to 30440(a)
and 30455.1 shall, in the two years immediately preceding the expiration
date of the certificate or permit:
- Earn 24 approved continuing education credits,
10 of which shall be in mammography; and
- Perform at least 200 mammographic examinations.
- The two-year period referred to in subsections
(a), (b) and (c) and section 30403.5 shall begin on the expiration date
of the certificate or permit:
- In the year 2001 for individuals with a certificate
or permit that ends in an odd number; and
- In the year 2002 for individuals with a certificate
or permit that ends in an even number.

§
30403.5. — Renewal Procedures
Each individual seeking renewal of a
certificate or permit issued pursuant to this subchapter shall:
- At least 30 calendar days prior to the expiration
date on the certificate or permit, submit to the Department a complete
application for renewal consisting of the applicant's name, mailing
address, telephone number, and certificate or permit type and number.
- Every two years, submit to the Department
the following information for each approved continuing education credit
as required by 30403 subsections (a), (b) and (c)(1):
- The identity of the group listed section 30400.5
that has accepted the instruction;
- The provider of the instruction;
- The title, if any, of the instruction;
- The date(s) of the instruction; and
- The location of the instruction;
- Submit to the Department an attestation every
two years of having completed mammographic examinations as required
pursuant section 30403 subsection (c)(2); and
- Pay the fee as required section 30408.

§
30403.8. — Recordkeeping Requirement
Each individual certified or permitted pursuant
to this subchapter shall maintain the document(s) that evidence the individual
having earned approved continuing education credits and/or completing
mammographic examinations for five years following the dates the credits
were earned and/or the mammographic examinations were completed. Such
document(s) shall be made available to the Department upon request.
§ 30404.
— Display
- Any radiologic technologist who holds a certificate
pursuant to Section 30440 or a fluoroscopy permit pursuant to Section
30451 shall prominently display such certificate or permit, or a copy
thereof, at each place where the technologist performs activities which
require a radiologic technologist certificate or permit.
- Any limited permittee who holds a permit pursuant
to Section 30444 shall prominently display such permit, or a copy thereof,
at each place where the limited permittee performs functions which require
a limited permit.
- Any licentiate who holds a certificate or permit
pursuant to Sections 30466 or 30467 shall prominently display such certificate
or permit, or a copy thereof, at each place of practice where the licentiate
performs activities which require a licentiate certificate or permit.

§
30408. — Fees
- The application fee for any certificate or permit
issued pursuant to this regulation shall be $55 for licentiates and
$45 for certified technologists and limited permittees. The initial
certificate or permit issued shall be valid for the entire remaining
term of the two-year validation period. The fee shall not be prorated.
If the applicant is found not eligible to take the required examination,
$10 of the fee shall be refunded.
- The fee for repeating an examination failed within
the previous 12 months shall be $33.
- The annual renewal fee for each certificate or
permit shall be $22.50 for licentiates and $20.50 for certified technologists
and limited permittees. The renewal fee shall be collected biennially
and such fee shall be twice the annual renewal fee.
- The fee for a duplicate certificate or permit
shall be $1.09.
- The penalty fee for renewal of any expired certificate
or permit shall be $5.44 and shall be in addition to the fee for renewal.
- Failure to pay the annual fee for renewal on or
before the expiration date of the certificate or permit shall automatically
suspend the certificate or permit. If the prescribed fee is not paid
within six months following such date, the certificate or permit shall
be revoked. A certificate or permit revoked for nonpayment of the renewal
fee may be reinstated within five years from the time of revocation
upon payment of $96 for licentiates and $87 for technologists and limited
permittees. If the application for reinstatement is not made within
five years from the date of suspension of the certificate or permit,
the certificate or permit shall be canceled and shall not be subjected
to reinstatement.
- The application fee for approval of schools of
X-ray technology shall be $350 and shall be included with the application
for approval.
- The annual fee for approved schools of X-ray technology
shall be $50 and shall be collected biennially.

§
30461. — Licentiate Permits
The permit categories for licentiates
of the healing arts are:
- Fluoroscopy supervisor and operator.
- Radiography supervisor and operator.
- Dermatology supervisor and operator.
§
30464. — Radiography Permits
A radiography supervisor and operator
permit issued by the Department shall be required of any licentiate of
the healing arts who does one or more of the following:
- Actuates or energizes radiography X-ray equipment.
- Supervises one or more persons who hold radiologic
technologist certificates pursuant to Section 30440(a).
- Supervises one or more persons who hold limited
permits pursuant to Section 30444.

§
30466. — Issuance of Licentiate Certificates or Permits
To obtain a licentiate certificate or
any licentiate permit an applicant shall have on file with the Department
an application as described in Section 30458, and in addition:
- For obtaining a fluoroscopy supervisor and operator
permit, shall pass a Department approved examination in fluoroscopy
radiation protection and safety, and use and supervision of use of fluoroscopy
and ancillary equipment.
- For obtaining a radiography supervisor and operator
permit, shall pass a Department approved examination in radiography
radiation protection and safety, and use and supervision of use of radiography
and ancillary equipment.
- For obtaining a dermatology supervisor and operator
permit, shall pass a Department approved examination in dermatology
radiation protection and safety, and application and supervision of
application of X-rays for treating diseases and tumors of the skin.
- For obtaining a radiology supervisor and operator
certificate, shall pass examinations specified in subsections (a) and
(b) of this section, unless qualified for a certificate pursuant to
Section 30467.
