College or Career Counselor FAQ

Thank you for visiting the Life Chiropractic College West Web site! As a college or career counselor, you play an important role in assisting students in refining their educational and professional plans. Please tell your interested students of the opportunities and advantages of a chiropractic education.

Chiropractic is the nation’s third largest primary health care profession, surpassed in numbers only by practitioners of medicine and dentistry. Over half of its ranks have graduated since 1977, and there are approximately 50,000 chiropractors in North America alone with many more throughout the world.

Chiropractic is a natural, preventative, and non-invasive form of health care that is based on the principle that the body has the inherent ability to both heal and maintain itself without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractic is safe, effective and cost efficient. This fundamental approach to wellness mirrors a new and changing attitude toward health care in the United States and around the world.

Chiropractic is a total-body healthcare system, and not a method of pain management. As a gatekeeper for direct access to the health delivery system, the responsibilities of the doctor of chiropractic as a primary care clinician include wellness promotion, health assessment, diagnosis, and the chiropractic management of the patient's health care needs. When indicated, the doctor of chiropractic may also co-manage, consult with, or refer to other health care providers.

Life Chiropractic College West offers the doctor of chiropractic degree. Located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, Life West provides a solid academic and clinical experience, featuring an integrated emphasis on chiropractic technique and philosophy. In our friendly and positive environment, students may complete the program in 12 quarters (three calendar years), or 14 quarters with our extended academic program.
Our nearly 700 students come from all over the United States, and many other parts of the world as well. International students are eligible for an alternative fee schedule equaling a 25% tuition reduction. And of course, financial aid is available to qualified U.S. students.

Life West offers over 12 different techniques in core and electives programs. We take a very practical approach to your chiropractic education, which is geared toward the needs of the practicing chiropractor. Hands-on training begins on the student's first day, finally culminating in a solid year of clinical outpatient experience. Thus equipped with a strong curriculum of science, philosophy and technique, our graduates are adept at the practice of chiropractic and well prepared for a career in health care.

Life West is accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, the agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit chiropractic colleges.
