Jurisprudence (California)

California Board of Chiropractic Examiners http://www.chiro.ca.gov/ recommends that its site be reviewed monthly for regulatory and informational updates.  The website has links for consumers, licensees, and business of the Board including regulations and procedures.

The CBCE requires chiropractors applying for state licensure to pass the law and professional practice examination.  It contains questions that may reference the law in any of the codes or regulatory sections.

The Study Guide for the Law and Professional Practice Exam (75 p.) is outdated and is no longer provided on the Board's site (per query to the Board, November 2007).

There are several links to review in the Board's site:

The Westlaw service also provides access to Barclay's Official California Code of Regulations.

To use the Westlaw service:

    • Click on: List of CCR Titles
    • Click on: Title 16. Professional and Vocational Regulations (PDF)
    • Click on the plus sign "+" for Division 4, State Board of Chiropractic Examiners
    • Click on the plus sign "+" to review Articles 1-9 and each Section in this Division.

The 29 California codes are posted online at http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

Here are some options for finding full text of the codes that apply to chiropractic:

    • To see full text of an entire code:

Checkmark one of the codes, leave keyword text box blank, click Search.

    • To search selected codes by keyword (chiropractic or chiropractor/s):

Checkmark one or more codes, enter keyword chiropract* in textbox, expand Limit to "200" documents, click Search.

    • To search all the codes by keyword (chiropractic or chiropractor/s):

Checkmark “All” codes, enter chiropract* in keyword textbox, expand Limit to “200” documents, click Search.  (As of April 2007, the search engine reported 108 documents and displayed the 87 that represent the current versions of the law.)

The following codes include at least one section that mentions chiropractic:

Business and Professions

Civil Procedure

Corporations

Health and Safety

Labor

Penal

Vehicle

Welfare and Institutions

Civil

Education

Evidence

Insurance

Revenue and Taxation

Unemployment Insurance

as of April 2007

More instructions for searching the codes database are available at California Law Help Page Index.
