Loansome Doc
A way to request journal articles indexed in PubMed.

Jump to:  Who can register? | Register for Loansome Doc | Loansome Doc tutorial | Cost of articles

Loansome Doc is a service the library provides in cooperation with the National Library of Medicine. After searching for biomedical journal articles using PubMed @ LCCW, registered users may want to order the full text (usually a photocopy via mail or fax) for selected citations.  Loansome Doc registrants can automatically route these requests to Life West library.

Registration is free to authorized users.  However, delivery of photocopies and interlibrary loans is fee-based, in order to recover costs.

Pros and cons:

Loansome Doc is easy to use, since electronic ordering ensures an exact and complete citation for each requested article. It also saves time. However, while PubMed indexes many  articles about chiropractic and manipulation, it does exclude the bulk of literature disseminated by chiropractic publishers. Therefore, Loansome Doc will best serve doctors who frequently use PubMed.

How it works:

After registering for the service, simply perform searches in the the PubMed database.  Check-mark the desired articles, pull-down the "Send to" menu, and select "Order".  This is the last choice on the menu.   A screen appears asking for Loansome Doc login information.  Once you log in, the check-marked citations appear listed on a Loansome Doc screen.  You can proceed with the order from there. You will be asked the maximum cost per article you are willing to pay, the deadline after which you no longer can accept delivery of the article, and you will need to check the box signifying your agreement with copyright.  Basically you cannot redistribute articles.  Any article sent to you by a library is for your personal research.

How much does it cost to request a journal article?

Please refer to Fees for Service. The lowest fees cover duplication and delivery of an article found in our journal collection. The cost is higher if the article must be ordered from an outside library, if you request special delivery, or if your request requires payment of a copyright royalty.
