JESSICA KNEISS NAMED 2007 STUDENT OF THE YEAR

HAYWARD, Calif., December 4, 2007—In recognition of her achievement and service to the college, the profession, and the community, the Life Chiropractic College West Alumni Association has named Jessica Kneiss as its 2007 Student of the Year.  She was honored on October 19, 2007 during the college’s annual homecoming events in Hayward.

Kneiss, a senior intern from Exeter, Penn., has been involved in student government since starting at Life West, serving as her freshman class representative. She was twice elected Student Council president, and then was elected Student Council vice president, which she is currently serving. In 2005, she helped organize a flea market that raised over $1,300 for Hurricane Katrina Relief. She has also helped raise money for the annual Life West Toy Drive the past two years, as well as serving as student lead for the annual Family Emergency Shelter Coalition Backpack Drive.

“I don’t think we’ve had an event on this campus for which Jessica hasn’t volunteered,” Dr. Karen Franklin, associate dean of instruction, said of Kneiss when presenting her with the award.

Kneiss, who holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Penn State University, worked as a chiropractic assistant for five years for Dr. Phillip Webb in Pennsylvania, where she realized she wanted to continue her education and to become a chiropractor.

Kneiss is the 14th recipient of the Life West Student of the Year Award.  The honoree is selected by the Life West Alumni Association Awards Committee, which is made up of alumni doctors and college administrators.

Life Chiropractic College West is an accredited non-profit institution of higher learning offering the Doctor of Chiropractic degree through a four-year program of study including an extensive clinical internship.  Currently 500 students from across the U.S. and abroad are enrolled, and over 3,700 graduates are providing chiropractic care worldwide.
