LIFE WEST PRESENTS “SPRING FOR LIFE” 2003
HAYWARD, Calif., May 19, 2003
On May 9, hundreds of practicing chiropractors,
chiropractic assistants, and chiropractic students were on hand for Life
Chiropractic College West's annual Spring for Life. Everyone enjoyed this
day of cutting edge chiropractic and health-care information, fellowship
and networking, and... sumo wrestling.
Life West President Gerard Clum, D.C. began the day
with a plenary session that was filled with the latest news in chiropractic
and health care. Recently returning
from the World Federation of Chiropractic and the Federation of Chiropractic
Licensing Boards conferences, Dr. Clum began his talk with a run down of the
status of chiropractic practice and education in numerous countries throughout
the world. He followed by talking about important chiropractic topics in the
United States, as well as current state regulations and issues important to
California chiropractors.
Dr. Clum concluded about exciting Life West campus
news, including the health center's new digital imaging technology and the
new Osteometer, which measures
a patient's bone density. He also talked about how the campus has installed
a wireless fidelity (wi-fi) network for students who will now be able to
log on
their laptop computers (with a wireless PC card) to the World Wide Web from
almost anywhere on campus.
Life West professor and popular chiropractic continuing education presenter
Malik Slosberg, D.C., followed Dr. Clum with his plenary session titled Validating
Chiropractic: Recent Research. Afterwards, participants took advantage of
the outstanding breakout lectures offered throughout the rest of the morning.
Along with the numerous attending Life West alumni
and students, this year's Spring for Life saw an impressive number of non-alumni
chiropractors on hand.
Many of them mentioned how impressed they were with the program, and what
a great service it was to the profession. A number of them also mentioned
how
much they
liked the Life West campus.
Due to the day's foul weather, the traditional annual
college picnic, following the sessions, was successfully held on campus,
instead of the nearby park.
After lunch, all of the attendees went to watch the
student sumo wrestling competition. Life West's Student Council hired a company
that provided
a mat, referees, and
ultra-thick-padded sumo wrestling suits and helmets-the wrestling outfits
resembled roly-poly dinosaur costumes. The packed "arena" was
filled with loud cheers and laughter as the audience watched class representatives
(one wrestler
per class) try to wrestle each other one-on-one. Carl Shaff, a 7th quarter
student, was the winner of the round-robin tournament.
