ANKUR
PRAKASH EARNS STUDENT OF THE YEAR AWARD FROM LIFE WEST ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
HAYWARD, Calif., November 5, 2003
Life Chiropractic College West's Alumni Association
has named Ankur Prakash its 2003 Student of the Year. Prakash's award was
presented to him during the college's annual SPA Day (Science, Philosophy,
and Art) Conference, October 16, 2003.
Prakash, a senior, was selected Student of the Year because of his solid academic
standing and his numerous contributions to Life West, the college's community,
and the chiropractic profession.
Along with his studies and clinical internship duties,
Prakash has kept busy with a number of campus activities. The Baltimore,
MD native has served as a
student council representative for eight quarters and has been an active member
of the Life West Delta Sigma Chi fraternity, where he has served as president,
secretary, corresponding secretary, and pledge master.
During the past three years, he has volunteered his
time to serve as a greeter at each on-campus open house, an usher at every
graduation ceremony and as a
guest speaker ambassador at all annual SPA Day and Spring for Life conferences.
In addition, he has been a contributing writer for the student newspaper, LifeLines.
As for delivering service to Life West's community,
Prakash has been a major organizer for the past three years with the Life
West BACKpack Drive-a school
backpack drive for local at-risk children. He has volunteered with the biannual
Bay Shore Environmental Clean-Up days from 2000 to present and with the Family
Emergency Shelter Coalition's Shelter Shuffle fundraiser in 2001 and 2003.
During his time at Life West, Prakash has also been
active in the chiropractic profession. He is a member of the college's Federation
of Straight Chiropractors
Organization Club, International Chiropractors Association, World Chiropractic
Alliance, Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic Education, National
Vaccine Information Center, and the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
He is also the founding member of the Student International Chiropractors Association
Council on Chiropractic Philosophy.
"It is truly an honor and a privilege to be a student here at Life Chiropractic
College West," said Prakash. "The school provides endless opportunities
for student involvement. Opportunities expand into the Bay Area where millions
of potential chiropractic patients want to be educated on health and wellness.
Also available locally, are the activities of national chiropractic organizations
where a student's voice is always valued. Life West has not only provided me
with several vehicles to offer my whole-hearted service to the school, the profession,
and the community, but also gave me the strong foundation of chiropractic philosophy,
science and art, so that I may serve with relentless passion after graduation."
Before entering Life West, Prakash earned his B.S. degree
in psychology from the University of Maryland in June 2000. He also passed
the Maryland State Certified
Chiropractic exam in 2001.
Prakash and his wife, Era, reside in Burlingame, CA.
