TINA CARRARI: LIFE WEST
STUDENT OF THE YEAR Due to an overwhelming list of achievements while attending Life Chiropractic College West, the college's Alumni Association has named Tina Carrari as its 2004 Student of the Year. Carrari's award was presented to her during the college's annual SPA Day (Science, Philosophy, and Art) Conference, October 21, 2004. Carrari, a senior, was selected this year's Student of the Year because of her impressive academic standing and her numerous contributions to Life West, the college's community, and the chiropractic profession. While successfully achieving her academic studies and clinical internship duties, Carrari has been an important contributor to many campus activities. The eleven-quarter (out of eleven) Dean's List member is an active participant with a number of campus clubs. Carrari has been the president of the Motion Palpation Club (since her first quarter) and president of the Community Outreach Club since the beginning of this year. She is also a member of the college's World Congress of Chiropractic Students. She serves as a student representative to three college committees: Curriculum Development, Research, and Library. Carrari has given many free informational lunchtime talks to her fellow students on applying for scholarships and how to prepare for their clinic entrance exams. Along with many other contributions to Life West, she has volunteered her time to help out with campus open houses, SPA Day and Spring for Life conferences, as well as other college-sponsored chiropractic events.
As for providing service to the Life West community, Carrari has assisted with the past three annual Life West BACKpack Drives—a school backpack drive for local at-risk children. She has led 12 Life West laboratory tours for visiting to Bay Area high school and college anatomy physiology classes. She also led book collections for local and international library and literacy programs. When it comes to service to the chiropractic profession, the native of Santa Maria, Calif. has certainly given her time and talents. Carrari has organized adjusting seminars with numerous local chiropractors. She co-authored a paper (re-analysis of scoliosis research) currently being reviewed for publication. And finally, she is a member of the student chapters of the California Chiropractic Association, the International Chiropractic Association, and the Federation of Straight Chiropractic Organizations. “Life West has been a great choice for me,” says Carrari. “In addition to a solid chiropractic education, Life West is rich in opportunities and support to live the college's motto, ‘To do, to give, to serve, to love, out of abundance.' I am thankful to have made the right decision in coming to Life West.” This very special accommodation is certainly not Carrari's first while attending Life West. She has earned the Student Achievement Award (twice), the Michael Beddoe Commitment to Excellence Award, the Datatel Scholarship (twice), the FSCO John Stachurski Memorial Scholarship (twice awarded) and the OUM Scholarship (essay contest).
A graduate of Earnest Righetti High School, in Santa Maria, Calif., Carrari is the daughter of Mr. Joe F. and Mrs. Phyllis Carrari of Los Alamos, Calif. Before entering Life West, she earned her B.S. degree in agricultural business management from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and her M.A. in human development from Pacific Oaks College, in Pasadena, Calif.
